Abbey Access Training was established as a charity and company limited by guarantee in 1999. The Centre aims to contribute to the economic, social and environmental regeneration of the Abbey ward and wider City of Lincoln through programmes of training, education and community activities.
The Centre is situated in the deprived Abbey ward in Lincoln. The area falls within the top 5% of deprived wards in the country and the top 1% for health deprivation and therefore targets its services on those experiencing barriers to learning, employment and social inclusion through training and learning programmes to help individuals progress.
We have supported and trained over 6000 learners between 2008/2022 and achieve an 85% progression into employment/further learning
The Centre prides itself on its supportive training environment, working with commitment and energy to provide a variety of opportunities.
Whilst our primary function is supporting individuals into employment, the centre has established itself as an agency that addresses the real barriers preventing progression.
For the Working and Connecting Communities Project, the Centre has received £155,000 from the UK Government Community Renewal Fund.
We will be delivering the following training programmes, which will enhance and expand elements of our current programmes:
Bakery NVQ’s to 50 individuals
To compliment our existing training Café and the development of our Training Bakery, we are piloting the delivery of 50 Bakery NVQ’s. Learners will work alongside our qualified Trainers to learn the skills in working in a Bakery to enhance their chances of employment. We will be enhancing the NVQ with an opportunity to achieve Customer Service, Food Preparation, Food Safety, COSHH, HACCP and First Aid certificates.
Construction NVQ’s to 50 individuals
To compliment our existing Get into Construction and Pathways Programmes we are piloting the delivery of 50 Construction NVQ’s in Bricklaying, Groundworks, Plastering and Joinery. Learners will be trained by our team of qualified construction tutors to gain new skills and will work on placement in industry to gain the site experience to complete their NVQ. We will be enhancing the NVQ with an opportunity to achieve a Dumper Truck licence or Forklift Licence, alongside CSCS Card, Asbestos Awareness, Manual Handling, Fire Safety and First Aid Certificates.
